Alden Castle Wedding with Katie and Joe

This was a crazy weekend and once again, New England's weird weather played it's dirty little tricks.  We went from sweltering heat on Saturday, to a cold, damp,  freezing day on Sunday.  I do have to say we were so lucky with our couples though, both wedding days they were up for anything when it came to pictures and we had to put our best foot forward to keep up!  First was Katie and Joe...

This is one amazing couple.  Not only are they picture perfect, but they are also one of the kindest, sweetest couples we have worked with.  As you know, we normally do an engagement session with our clients, but due to some unfortunate bumps in the road, Katie and Joe came to us later in their planning process.  If we don't get that extra time to spend and get to know everyone, we are pretty nervous to be quite honest with you.  But this time, we knew everything was going to be great, in the short time we have met and chatted with them, it had felt like we had known them forever!  We couldn't wait to spend the day with them shooting and watching them experience the happiest day of their lives!  Although the heat tried to stop us, we made do, and were able to seek relief inside Alden Castle to finish up our creative shots amongst the insanely beautiful architecture and decor.  They were also our first clients to have the #Gifyyy!  I was cracking up watching people figure out what to do with it, and then once they did, how it unfolded.....  The groans as we packed that thing up to go, were definitely satisfying I have to admit!  The entire day was beautiful and we couldn't ask for a better couple to work with!  Congrats to you both, we had a blast working with you and can't wait to see you for your preview!  Here is their story according to them....

1. Tell us how you first met who, what, when, where, why? Give us the dirty details: Katie: Joe took me on our first date the day after Christmas 12/26/13. We had never met before so I was beyond nervous. I walked up to meet Joe outside of Clarkes in Fanueil Hall. The first thing I noticed was he was tall, dark & extremely handsome. He immediately offered his arm (being an icy night so I wouldn't slip) as we walked over to Hillstone for dinner. Once we got to the restaurant, Joe ordered a bottle of wine & we talked the night away. The cutest part of the night was the text I received from Joe 5 minutes after leaving that said "Is it too soon to ask you out again?" We went out the very next day & the day after that & the day after that ... Joe: Our first date was at Hillstone in Fanueil Hall. We shared a bottle of Keenan Cabernet at the restaurant and just talked and enjoyed each other’s company for the entire night. I had a great time and couldn’t wait to see her again. I was lucky enough to see her again the next night.

2. When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did? Katie: The first time he held my hand & squeezed it. It just felt right :) Joe: I’m somewhat of a picky eater, so I always need to scout out a menu before going out to eat. When we first started dating, we went to an event and there wasn’t a vegetarian option on the menu, so I was basically going to eat A LOT of bread and butter (almost typical for me because I don’t eat a lot of typical food served at events/functions). Katie spoke to a waitress in private and the venue/wait staff brought out a plate of french fries and a cesear salad... Other than my parents, NO ONE had ever gone out of their way and had done something that special for me before. A small gesture, but it meant so much to me. She was definitely the one.

3. Tell us about the proposal. Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out? Katie: I had no idea a proposal was coming he totally caught me off guard.  The minute Joe pulled the little white box out of his jacket I kept asking him "What is in there?!" After the romantic proposal I dried my eyes & went into complete shock. The surprises kept on coming! Joe walked me into a nearby restaurant where my entire family was waiting to celebrate. From there all our friends arrived as the night turned into one giant engagement/birthday party! It was the most special day of my life! Joe: Oh boy, the summer of 2015! It wasn’t easy sneaking around going to jewelry stores without Katie catching on. I wanted it to be special, so after I asked Katie’s father for his permission to marry his daughter, we decided to get the ball rolling on a date and time. Katie was going to be finishing her chemotherapy treatments at the end of September and her birthday was also on September 29 so I wanted it to be around that time. Once Katie started treatment, I knew that I was going to propose to her either the day she finished or the day after she finished. I wanted it to be special and memorable, so I already knew that it was going to be one of those days.  Mike & I scouted out a restaurant in Boston called Nix’s Mate, and we instantly knew that that was where we wanted the post engagement party to be. On October 3rd, I proposed to Katie in One Post Office Square, it was a place we had always walked through when we lived in the city. Every time we are in Boston, we walk by or through areas where we met or got engaged, so it’s always like we get to relive that amazing day.

4. Tell us the one thing you love most about each other Katie: I love how kind & gentle Joe is. He has the biggest heart & will do anything for the people he loves. Joe: Katie has one of the biggest hearts you’ll ever come across. She’d do anything or go anywhere for any one of her friends and family. She’s the most honest, determined, kindest, caring, loving, and amazing people you’ll ever meet.

5. Share with us something silly or quirky the other person does Katie: Joe LOVES sports. He has a full NFL collection of mini sized football helmets & on Sundays (without me ever noticing) he places the opposing team's helmets on entertainment unit. This is why every man should have his own man cave! Joe: One of the funniest things about Katie is that she can’t make rice. Every time she tries to make rice for us (in a pot or wok) something happens.  Water overflows endlessly, rice gets burnt somehow, pots or woks are beyond repair. We rushed to put a new wok on the wedding registry 2 weeks ago because our old wok was beyond repair after Katie attempted to make rice in it! 6. Besides getting married, what's the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day? Katie: Having all of my family & friends in one room & dancing with my Dad :) Joe: Having both of our families in one room at the same time and celebrating with us. Our families live at opposite ends of the state and they rarely see each other or spend time with each other. I also love that Katie will be one of the main focus’s of everyone’s attention that day. She’s always running around and doing things for all of her friends and family (even in the midst of our wedding planning) and rarely gets to have everyone’s focus centered on her. I know that May 28th will be "our" day, but I'm looking forward to Katie having an awesome day where “she” is one of the major points being celebrated because she’s amazing in every way and deserves it.
