Andrea and James Copley Square engagement photography

Even though we had a bit of a chilly and windy day I had a great time shooting with Andrea and James for their Boston engagement photography.  They wanted to be able to capture some of Boston's architecture and the beauty the city offers.  We walked around Copley Square and then over to Comm Ave.  I love the connection they have and It shows in their images.

We always ask our couples a few questions about their story, here are some of their answers.

How did you two meet?

Classic meet-cute in a bar in Cambridge. I had just moved back to Boston from San Francisco the day before, and James had been in Boston for a few months but hadn't really gone out on the town yet. He spotted me from across the bar and came over to chat. We found out within 30 seconds of talking that we were both from Oklahoma originally, and the rest, as they say, was history.

Tell us the proposal story~

After about two years together, James casually suggested we take a trip to New York for the weekend. He said he'd plan it, and that he wanted it to be a surprise. He booked us a room at the Waldorf Astoria for the weekend, and when we pulled up to the hotel, I had an idea that the proposal was imminent! He still managed to completely surprise me though. After a late lunch downtown on the first day, he wanted to walk by Washington Square Park since he had never seen it. In the park, he asked some tourists if they could take our picture under the arch. Little did I know he was actually asking them to secretly record his proposal! After a quick picture, James got down on one knee and proposed with my an alexandrite and diamond ring that once belonged to my grandmother.

What details are you most excited about for your wedding? EX. cake, vendors, location, etc.

We're both excited to throw an awesome party for 200 of our friends and family! Considering we've both lived all over the country (he in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Chicago, Ann Arbor, and Boston, and me in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Boston), one of the things we're most excited about is showing friends from different phases of our lives the state where we grew up.

What look were you going for in your engagement session?

I studied architecture in college and graduate school, and James is a bit of an architecture nerd himself, so we were both into the idea of a shoot focused on Boston's architecture and famous landmarks.

Do you have any tips or advice for couples getting ready for their session?

Make sure to use lots of hairspray! It was windy during our shoot and my curls were gone after a few minutes, sadly. Also, keep an eye on your bags! We accidentally left a tote bag full of our things on the street during the shoot since we were moving around a lot. Fortunately it was still there at the end of the shoot, but hopefully no one else makes the same mistake!

How was your overall session experience?

Great, other than the temporary scare when we thought our bag had been stolen! Christian was really fun to work with and gave us just the right amount of direction. He was very open to our suggestions for the shoot, but also had plenty of ideas of his own. Can't wait to see the pictures!
